Marissa Explains IT All: Episode 5
“What is the cloud?”
Transcript:
“The cloud is a general term we use to talk about accessing stuff that’s not where we are, via internet connection. Commonly, software as an application or the web apps like Microsoft 365, where you’re logging in to a browser and you’re working there – nothing in your office.
On the other side of that, we have your infrastructure, like your servers, that would traditionally be in your office. Except, with the cloud, they’re somewhere else.
In a public cloud, like Microsoft Azure, you’re using Microsoft’s data center, their equipment, and their responsibility to manage that stuff with a pay-as-you-go model.
On the other side, you have your private cloud, which is where you own and operate everything in a data center somewhere else. It gives you more flexibility and more security, but it is at a higher cost.
So, we’ve got the cloud for your applications and the cloud for your infrastructure, whether you own it or somebody else owns it.”
